In July 2025 the Government set out the NHS 10 year plan for England (only England). It included the statement:

“Every cancer patient will have the choice to receive a comprehensive genomic analysis and molecular profiling to guide precision treatment decisions, while liquid biopsy technology will enable early detection non-invasivety through a blood test and monitoring of on-going treatment response”

The outstanding and very welcome news is that NHS England Genomics Service will have a roll out of ctDNA (blood) AND tissue genomic testing as standard of care for CUP patients in England from July 2026. There are all sorts of implementation challenges and process improvements that need to be made but this is a huge step forward for CUP patients.
