Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs) update

October 27, 2020

We have been supportive of the concept of RDCs to speed diagnosis for people without obvious primary symptoms. As at Oct 2020 a report from NHS England shows:

34 RDCs are currently live, and a further 60 are in development. In July (most recent available data) RDCs received nearly 900 referrals and diagnosed over 130 cancers. 82% of live pathways are for non-specific symptoms. NHS are currently re-planning RDC implementation over the second half of 2020/21, working with regions and alliances to accelerate rollout wherever possible as part of our approach to managing referrals returning to the system.
